Project Rugby

Rugby makes children fitter, braver, resilient, happier, confident and more determined. It breaks down barriers, develops essential life skills, enhance relationships and helps them concentrate. Introduce rugby to your school with Project Rugby’s fun, inclusive, non-contact sessions delivered by professional coaches from Premiership Rugby Clubs.

For more information on how to set up your free Project Rugby programme fill out the form below and we will be in touch with next steps.

Our award-winning Project Rugby participation programme was created to introduce as many young people as possible to rugby so they can reap the many benefits of playing the sport.

Delivered in partnership with Gallagher UK and the RFU, Project Rugby has successfully introduced over 100,000 new people to the sport since it started eight years ago with many going on to playing regularly and joining a local club.

Community staff from Premiership Rugby’s Club Foundations work closely with teaching staff at schools in their local area to deliver Project Rugby sessions which help break down barriers to playing previously held by pupils. The familiar setting for the fun, inclusive, non-contact sessions has been proven to help make young people who had never even picked up a rugby ball before more open minded to playing the sport.

Schools don’t need a rugby pitch or even an astro, just a group of willing children who want to give a new sport a try. Teacher coaching is also provided by the professional coaches to build their skills and confidence in rugby so Rugby can continued being played at school.

One young player who has been introduced to the sport via a Project Rugby session hosted by Sales Sharks is 13 year old Mason from Oldham.

“I never knew what rugby was until I was encouraged by my PE Teacher to try the Project Rugby sessions at school. Now I love it, I think I’ve found my sport! Playing gives me confidence, it’s such a buzz and I feel like I belong. I’m hopeful I can play for my local club too.”
